He Man Costumes

The most popular superhero of the famous cartoon series we all grew up watching - Masters of the Universe, was He man. The series eventually transitioned into a line of toys, which later actually outlived the cartoon series itself. And what made the muscular super-hero even more famous was the He man costume.

The costume comprises very basic clothing to emphasize the muscularity and strength of the ever so popular superhero. Red boots coupled with a pair of red underwear, along with red cuffs, and a basic red and grey armor to go with it, teamed with a yellow blunt cut hairdo, this costume was designed to focus on the strengths and powers of this legendary superhero. This alter ego of Prince Adam, also commonly referred to as the twin brother of Princess She-Ra is usually armed with a sword, apparently indestructible in nature to go along with his entire persona.

The costume consists of four basic components - a pair of red boots, a red underwear very neatly armored around the waist, a pair of red cuffs and an armor in red and grey ,shaped almost like an X around his chest, meant to protect this warrior hero from deathly attacks  by his evil enemies. Though he man is claimed to be largely non-violent, indulging in combat only as the last resort to thwart the enemies of the world, the he man looks remains incomplete without his indestructible sword. Because of the fact that this costume requires very elemental clothing the he man costume is very easy to make at home if you are looking to out dress everyone else for a Fancy dress or a Halloween party.

Here is how to go about it - you could use a pair of rubber rain boots, primarily because he man boots are pretty tall by boot standards and spray paint them red. A pair of red bikini briefs would go best with the look, unless you choose to use white briefs dyed red. However make sure to wear a red belt around your waist over the upper edge of the underwear to ensure better resemblance to the original costume. For the body, you could choose to use a padded muscular jumpsuit and for the cuffs you can cut out two rectangular pieces of red cloth, according to the circumference of your wrists and you could choose to either stitch the ends or affix them using velcro.

Using red wristbands could be an easier option though, since they are very easily available. For the armor you could cut out a piece of grey cloth, shaped like an X, with a square at the centre and stick the logo cut out in red on the square. As for the sword you can use an inflatable sword, or you could choose to make one using cardboard and silver paper. Finally team it up with a yellow shoulder length wig and you have your very own he man costume. One last thing: make sure you shout “By the powers of Grayskull" out loud and proud once you are in this costume.
